The reason why we need smooking room in our public spaces

Smoking is a very dangerous activity for the body, not only in the short term but also in the long term. This is inseparable from the impact caused by smoking activities. Not only active smokers who get the consequences, but passive smokers who only inhale cigarette smoke will also get the consequences and can be more severe. Therefore, there is a need for special smoking rooms in public places.

Smoking is a lawful thing. In addition, smokers must also respect non-smoking citizens. Of course, it is necessary to provide a place that is able to fulfil every right of these citizens. The provision of designated smoking areas is a tolerant and lenient measure - certainly one that is humane, not cramped and claustrophobic, or just there. Smokers are no longer forced to isolate themselves from public spaces. Moreover, processed tobacco products are legal, and can be used in public spaces.

Smoking rooms can support the health and comfort of non-smoking visitors. Smoking rooms help separate cigarette smoke from non-smoking areas, thus protecting non-smoking visitors from the negative effects of cigarette smoke, such as respiratory irritation or long-term health risks.

Reduce smoke pollution in public places, as cigarette smoke can pollute the air and leave unpleasant odours. Separate smoking rooms help reduce this pollution in public places frequented by many people. People living around smokers are affected by cigarette smoke. This is also harmful to their health, especially for children, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions.

Designated smoking rooms can prevent neighbourhood fires. Smoking rooms can minimise the risk of fires. Most smokers dispose of cigarette butts carelessly, especially during forest fire season. Cigarette butts can reach an average temperature of 43.5-54.0°C, depending on the type of cigarette. Fires can occur if cigarette butts fall and hit flammable materials. As happened in Pekalongan, 2 hectares of pine forest caught fire due to carelessly discarded cigarette butts.

If there is a designated smoking area, follow the rules and policies. Many countries or regions have regulations that require separate smoking and non-smoking areas in public places to reduce exposure to second-hand smoke. By providing designated smoking areas, public places can comply with these regulations. Such countries are Norway, New Zealand, Uruguay, Malta, Italy, Sweden, Scotland, Bhutan, Lithuania and the British Virgin Islands, which implemented smoke-free policies to protect the health of millions of people by banning smoking in public places.

In conclusion, the existence of smoking rooms in public places is needed by the community because the impact of cigarette smoke is very influential for everyone and the environment. with the existence of smoking rooms can minimise the occurrence of various diseases and environmental damage. We should always avoid smoking and being in the same room with active smokers so that we can stay healthy from time to time.
